Yoongeun Shin is an explorer — always searching for new discoveries within color, form, and texture. He finds joy in unexpected combinations and sudden moments of understanding, and it is that joy that drives him to continually create. He follows emotion and curiosity without a destination. His process is one of play — improvisational, purposeless, free. And it is within that freedom that new possibilities always emerge, leading him somewhere he has never been before. Working within the genre of still life, he constructs scenes that have never been seen before — arrangements that feel at once unfamiliar and deeply felt. Everything he makes begins with love, and everything he makes is an attempt to make the world a little more beautiful.

서울과 원주를 기반으로 활동하며, 일상에서 발견하는 사물과 조용한 순간을 그림으로 기록한다. 식탁 위의 그릇과 오래된 기물, 가족들과 함께 나눈 음식, 창가에 잠시 머무는 작은 새, 숲과 나무처럼 가까운 삶에서 마주하는 풍경들이 자연스럽게 그림의 소재가 된다. 익숙한 사물과 풍경은 오랜 시간 쌓인 손길과 기억을 머금은 채 개인적인 경험 속에서 다시 해석된다.

주로 나무 위에 그림을 그리거나 거친 질감의 종이, 한지와 장지에 아크릴 물감으로 작업한다. 재료가 가진 표면의 결이나 작업 과정에서 남겨지는 흔적 역시 그림을 이루는 중요한 요소다. 나무의 결, 종이의 질감과 붓질이 겹쳐지면서 화면에는 또 다른 표정이 만들어진다. 매끈하게 정돈하기보다는 이러한 물질의 흔적을 남겨두고, 그 거친 표면 사이에서 은은하게 드러나는 따뜻한 감각을 담고자 한다.

식탁에서 가족들과 음식을 나누고 대화를 주고받았던 시간은 그릇과 음식에 대한 기억으로 남고, 오래 사용한 기물의 손때에서는 정감 어린 분위기를 발견한다. 그렇게 일상에서 마주한 작고 평범한 장면들을 화면 안에 천천히 옮겨 놓는다. 익숙한 사물과 조용한 장면들이 그림 안에 오래 머물고, 그것을 바라보는 누군가에게도
편안한 방 안에 잠시 머무는 듯한 감각으로 전해지기를 바란다.
